I have installed the developers tools for Panther - Though I did a custom install of just the first package (I can't remember what it was called - the one with Xcode, etc. the main one) and the BSD development package. However, I can't even compile a simple hello world c program on the command line - i get an error about stdio.h. It is NOT in the /usr/include directory - anybody know what I might have done wrong?

Dunno, but I'd probably go back and reinstall everything on the developers tools CD.

stdio.h should be in /usr/include. iostream.h, on the other hand is not. It's in /usr/include/gcc/darwin/3.3/c++/backward/iostream.h

Indeed, try running /Developer/Tools/uninstall-devtools.pl and then installing again.
