Does anyone here use Paybutton for their ecommerse website?

I currently use PayPal but get a lot of complaints from people who find Paypal too hard to use.

Does anyone know of a similar service like Paypal, but it easier to use? (i.e. you don't have to jump thru so many hurdles to place a credit card order online?)

finding somewhere easier to use isn't really the problem. finding people who trust the new fangled method could be a problem though. people use PayPal because it's well trusted. how many people do you hand your credit card details to?

they are a bit more pricey than paypal, but it integrates with your site so most people don't even know you don't have a merchant account.

http://www.2checkout.com/

your clients don't have to sign up, they run through it just like amazon.com and it works with os commerce ( http://www.oscommerce.com/ ) to offer sign in like amazon.com (so if they buy a lot from you they don't have to enter their info in every time.)

I have set up two site with this system. thought the 5.5% is a bit high, most client I develop for would like to pay that and the one time set fee of $50 than a gateway or a gateway and merchant account monthly bill in addition to 1~2% processing fees.

I've been doing some research on this subject as of late. Check out sites like www.aboutpaypal.org or www.paypalsucks.com (or org, I forget which). Or even just do a search at google for "paypal fraud", or "paypal complaints" and you'll get an ear full of terrible stories about paypal.

The main problem, at least for sellers, is that Paypal is not regulated by the banking industry thus is not subject to many of the post great depression laws put in place to make banking more fair.

There are so many horror stories on the net of Paypal freezing accounts, including checking accounts, in the name of fraud protection. They do it in a manner that no real bank would legally be able to do.

Paypal sign up sellers in a way no bank would, namely, no credit check. This opens Paypal up to much more fraud and requires Paypal to be overzealous in it's battle against fraud. Unfortunately, a lot of innocent people are caught in the cross fire.

Folks have lost thousands to Paypal. There are at least two active class action lawsuits againts paypal. Attourney generals in four states are investigationg PayPal for operating an illegal bank and Louisana has taken steps to try and ban Paypal from doing business in the state.

I had thought of using paypal shopping cart buttons with my site. But after doing research on the net, I'm very leary of paypal.

I may use paypal on ebay but will set up a seperate checking account soley for paypal transfers. When the money enters my paypal account, I'll immediately transfer it to the checking account and then quickly transfer it to a savings account of which Paypal doesn't have the account number to. That will shield the funds from Paypal's hounds.

For my site I'm considering a webhost that offers Miva Merchant as part of the hosting fees. Then use Payquake.com for the merchant account. Through www.Apollohosting.com you can sign up for payquake with no sign up fees and they have a no monthly fee plan which looks like a good place to start. Payquake is a genuine merchant account.

Just some ideas!

I would not suggest paypal as a way to conduct your business. Recently an old client decided to charge back $9,000 to my paypal account through her credit card. Although I provided proof to pay pal at least 3 times that she had received her product and they argeed what she was doing was fraudulent they allowed the chargebacks to go through claiming that there was nothing they could do. I was using paypal to conduct my business almost daily, now my account is over $6,000 in the negative and paypal will do nothing. I have reported it to their fraud department who will do nothing as well. Because of this I may lose many clients who find paypal an easy way of conducting transactions. My once prosperous business may be finished because I had faith in paypal.

You might want to investigate VeriSign's PayFlow Link.

Just be aware that with any merchant account/gateway solution (several of my clients use VeriSign, I prefer Authorize.Net) you will be paying monthly fees of $30-50 even if you have zero transactions. Yes, there are lots of horror stories about PayPal, but at least you only pay when you receive money.

The best compromise, like someone else said, is a third-party merchant service: 2checkout.com.
I do not like those green links and spam.

Though I've not used them, Payquake.com has a no monthly fee option that has a slightly higher than normal percentage rate then the accounts that have monthly fees. Even at the higher rate, I believe Payquake's rates are 1 - 2% lower than 2checkout. Payquake also has a virtual terminal where you can run charges through manually.

Payquake is a legitimate merchant account while I believe 2checkout is a service similiar to Paypal in that you don't need to give them your business license to sign up. Hopefully 2checkout runs a better business than Paypal! The sad thing is that I recently read that 1/3 of all online purchases are conducted via Paypal. Of course it's popular with customers, Paypal offers little protection for the merchants.........
