Hey guys/gals,

Is it possible to check for an active e-mail? For my new gag site, www.disstron.com, people enter an e-mail then it sends an insult to their friends, but I'm getting a lot of bounce backs, from people entering an invalid e-mail, or something like.. @hotmial.com. Is there anyway to check for real e-mails? Probably not, but it's worth a shot to ask.

Also, sometimes my friends say they sent me a diss to my hotmail account, but I never get it, it doesn't even end up in my junkmail. Does hotmail have spam filters that prevent certain e-mails from even getting to your account? If so, are my mail headers incorrect?

Thanks,
Jon31

This may be a good start for you - it's not a foolproof method, but you could modify this code to create something that's reasonably accurate:-

MX records aren't required though, so you might get some false positives. Try the gethostbyname command. Still not foolproof, because it will validate hotmial.com because that really is a site.
I'm what Willis was talking about.
