For example if you wrote everything, designed everything, and took every picture, could you put a copyright symbol at the bottom of a web-page without filling a registry? Copyright law is so confusing...

Yes, you can. In fact, with or without the copyright symbol, it is copyrighted the moment you create it. You can sue for lost revenues if someone steals it. However, by registering the copyrighted item(s) it will also allow you to sue for damages and recovery of legal fees, etc...

In the US, at least, MacDog's statement holds. It may not for other places, however, so be aware of local laws.

Thank you Millennium, I should have prefaced my statement with that. Since us American's are all so god damn "lawyered up" I forgot that the entire world isn't full of greedy bastards like we are.

Are the colors of a web site (such as the background) copyrighted; besides a white background.

anyone can use any colour background they choose...you can't copyright a background colour. Imagine having to pay a fee every time you used a grey background on a website - you can however copyright a style.

A German online self-publishing company, My-favourite-book.com, used the color magenta in one of its advertisements, they quickly received a cease-and-desist letter from the German telecommunications company, Deutsche Telekom, whose corporate logo is mostly magenta has registered the color RAL 4010. I wonder if this could apply to backgrounds too?
