Just wondering if anyone here has an experience on compile times between a beige G3 @466Mhz to an iBook G4 @ 800 Mhz. I need to know if it will be worth the $1200 to get an iBook if it will mainly be used for compiling. Thanks!

I have upgraded from a G4 350 to a G4 PowerBook 1.25mhz. Wich is almost a G3 to G4 upgrade, and I must say that compile time is much improved, only subjective, but it takes me far less time to compile KDE (C++) for X11 (hours less time) as well as my Java apps.

Well, KDE would take almost a week on my 500MHz iBook. It took 12ish hours (less than a day) on my dual 533 G4.

I am looking mainly at compiling the applications I am writing. I need something mobile to take to work. My main box at home will eventually be at least a dual 3Ghz G5. I just dont have the money at this time for that beast!!! Oh and they dont exist either...

Wow!!! that is a long time on an ibook. On my G4 Powerbook 1.25 it takes about 5 hours. So that is a huge jump one week for an iBook to 5 hours on a G4 Powerbook 1.25.

Detrius has a 500Mhz G3 iBook where you, depolitic, have a 1.25Ghz G4... There isn't much comparison. I wish I could get a PowerBook... No way i could afford one. Stupid student loans...

Yes, I am going to get a dual 3Ghz G5 eventually... I need to make some software that people will buy first. I am almost done with my first application, setiLogger X avaliable here: http://www.tfworld.com/seti and will be starting my second one shortly. Hopefully by this summer, I can get the super monster computer that I want!!! For now, a sweet iBook I can take to work and program on would be nice...
