Hi,

I am planning an update on my G4 server to Panther.

Currently It has Jaguar and has PHP and MySQL installed via Marc Liyanage's packages.

I hear good things about Fink, and was wondering if I should just use Fink for installing MySQL and PHP.

Can I do that?

Will MySQL start-up automatically - or do I need to alter the StartUp Item for MySQL that is already available?

I'd stick with the standalone packages instead of Fink. Mark's packages work great with Panther and you know exactly which modules are compiled in.

you download the packages from mysql.com these days, not Marc's site. the startupItem comes in the same disc image.
