I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this (I usually post in the GUI Customization forum) but here it goes...

What programs should I use to start building webpages? Does someone have a list of applications for beginners, and for advanced users?

I have access to pretty much all the latest software, including the adobe creative suite.

I have a .mac account to host the webpage once I'm finished, I just need a quick and easy way to make an original webpage (sick of the ones .Mac comes with).
I have practically no experience. I did learn the basics using BBEdit at my school, but that doesn't really help me.
So can anyone help?

Sorry, Geocities just sprung to mind, been down that road myself, waste of time.

Serious advice....... write up some html in a text editor, save it as as .html file, open it in a browser.

Whammo.

Best tip I ever received.

Later days..........throw some javascript in, css, php.........will make it a hell of a more enjoyable experience when it comes to figuring out what Dreamweaver has thrown into the code to make things go sideways.

Photoshop is pretty much a staple, you can make a website without it but it'll make your life a lot easier.

I asked becuase my friend used a program to make a website for me. He didn't need to write a single line of html. Only problem is that it came out terribly, here's a link
http://homepage.mac.com/schroetera/index.old.html
As you can all see I need to make my own sites from now on...

Thanks fromthecloud, that's exactly the list i'm talkin' 'bout

I just have one question but what does Transmit do? I mean I've heard of FTP but I have no idea what it is.

And don't even think about making fun of my lack of knowledge in the subject cause then you're no better then a PC user.

And if you offend me for my lack of knowledge in the subject, go find mistakes in Star Trek episodes
When in doubt, consult the Wiki.

Ok, grab some reading material about HTML.

Use your favorite editor (PageSpinner, BBEdit, I, for one, prefer vim). It's very easy. Took me less than a day to get my page to work.

Some hours later, I decided to go CSS. Another day and I got it, thanx to the help of some of the guys here that supplied me with some reading material. If you can speak German, SelfHTML is a great introduction and I still use it as a reference.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Despite my very German last name, I lack the ability to actaully speak the language, but I'm sure I can google for some tutorials for html.

I am more confused then ever,
What exactly would I use Transmit for? Do I use it to transfer updated pages to .Mac?
Is it faster than using my iDisk (which is REALLY slow)?
