Does anyone know if the .Mac homepage allow the use of CGI script, PHP, Java Servlets, WebObjects or anything like on the server side? If so, how can I use it?

Yep, it's a no. You would have to find a 'real' host to do that unfortunately. On the up side, if you require all these things, chances are you could do with the extra features a real hosting account would provide.

No. The best you can hope for from .mac is JavaScript. I really do wish that they'd at least allow for some server-side AppleScript, or even just server-side includes.

Oh...
Another reason why .Mac is not as popular as Apple wants, I guess?
I would have thought as least .Mac would provide some WebObjects stuff on the .Mac homepage...
Thanks for everyone for the contributions!

no, $99 is why .mac is not as popular as apple would want. i doubt that the vast majority of .mac users care about php or cgi scripts...
(i do. but that's why i host my own webserver in order to play around with it)

For $99 .Mac is not worht the money. You get 100Mb storage with very limited badwidth, a couple e-mail account and access to some software that a lot of people don't want / need. Integration with iApps is nice, but there are way to transfer information from iPhoto (check iPhototoGallery), iCal etc. to a regular website.
For $96 (add domain name registration etc. to that if you don't already have one) I got 1Gb of webspace, 20Gb monthly transfer, MySQL, PHP, Perl, CGI, SSI, 100 e-mail accounts with aliases, FTP, multiple users, 10 subdomains ... using iPhototoGallery I can upload directly from iPhoto to my PHP Gallery and that's No.1 feature everyone keeps talking about. Like any iDisk I can mount the FTP on my desktop and drag'n'drop files on there. So my advise ... shop around and you will find MUCH better deals.
.Mac is a solution for people that don't know and don't care about CGI, PHP etc. and are willing to pay a premium to just click a button in iPhoto or whatever to be able to sit back and watch their Mac do everything for them. Their approach is perfectly fine. Some people will pick .Mac because they don't want to deal with anything ... other will go elsewhere and install a simple CMS that will handle everything for them from that point on ... .

The main reason I dropped .Mac was due to the lackluster features for the high price.

Limited bandwidth? I thought that once the .Mac pay-for-services model was rolled out, bandwidth was mostly unmetered. I don't remember anyone's page getting disabled for this reason recently.......I could be wrong though.
That doesn't make up for the lack of certain features. But .Mac does have some good ones; for example, IMAP and email through SSL (I know these are somewhat common features, but a lot of hosts (particularly the uber-cheap ones) don't have them.
I can see why people might want a .Mac to support advanced features, but I'm just as happy having my own host. The only thing really lost is iDisk capabilities. That sync in the background thing is cool.
I once read about a way to build your own iDisk server, but I think that this requires server-side software unfortunately. I think I'll go look it up now.

Unmetered doesn't necessarily mean unlimited. It just means that you don't pay extra for what bandwidth you do use.

Thanks for the tip on iPhotoToGallery! Just what I was looking for. Trying to upload to Gallery is a pain without that.
