Its a scary world out there on the web looking for sites to trust on "How to start a website". With all the companies just looking to make an easy buck!
Does anyone know where I should start and who to trust and invest in when it comes to buying a domain name and finding a server/host for a .com/net/org site? Any sound advice would be so nice to read! Gratsi!

www.godaddy.com is good to purchase a domain from. Cheap domains, and good support.

Hosting is another matter, depends on your requirements quite a bit.

First step though - grab your domain name, and then you can work out hosting - make sure you get the domain before someone else does!
