Curious about what inspires/encourages people to program web pages, especially since today's 'net industry seems a little financially unstable.
Just thought people might like to do a little poll.

I put myself down as 'programmer in my spare time'.
I do a bit of homepaging (new word?) as kind of a hobby, but I don't actually do any real programming, except the odd JavaScript I need for the homepages... and I don't expect to make a living of it later on either...

"professional programmer by choice. love it!"
I'm a ComSci student right now, but I get paid for my web development so that makes me a pro, I guess :-) Just got a nice check today, actually!

It's funny that I'm often asked if I majored in computers.

And that's funny because...?
Quite a few computer whizzes have never taken a computer class in their life. Hell, computers are so easy, even a biology major could be adept at 'em!

Stange desire to "make a difference", "do something worthwhile" that knd of thing. I've knocked together a fair few sites in my time, both for paid work and community not-for-profits. Usually they exist as a way to further my current interests.... one of the best way to find someone out about something is create a community for it & let the people with the knowhow arrive. Now I've let my secret outta the bag, dang.
I've barely ever earnt a living from websites (something the inland revenue have had trouble accepting), but thats not stopped me. On the upside this means I aint affected by markets, just inspiration.
