Can anyone here point me in the right direction for creating software/hardware that can read a driver license or credit cards?
Not necessarily to program the cards but only to read what is on the cards... and yes, my intentions are pure.

This is not a software function. It is really tied to the hardware, drivers have to be written for that hardware.

How about searching online for a card swiper? I will warn you though, I saw a good news article on it last night. It was about how this is a new form of identity theft...

Ahh I see, you are wanting to write drivers for the thing! Pretty cool... You will need to get access to the internal workings of the device. Usually contacting the company or getting some technical specs of the product will work. However, some companies do not want you to write stuff like this. I am guessing it will connect via USB? Might want to look into Apple's SDK for USB also... Hope this helps and let us know if you get it working

Thanks for the heads up and links everyone. I found some other sites (on google, of course) like IDT-Net.com and Didya.com they make the HW (along with USB card reader). I do like the products from intelli innovation that are built for OS X; which is where I will be doing the coding.
