i'm looking to set up a site that lets me sort data by a number of variables, but i'm really not sure where to start, what the best language to learn would be or anything.

i'm guessing i need to set up some sort of database and then link the site to the database.

at the moment i have a pretty good grasp of HTML, but beyond that I haven't tried to learn anything else.

can anyone recommend what i should try to teach myself next?

PHP & MySQL would be a damned good place to start. there's a load of info at both sites, both free, tons of info on t'internet, loads of good books about both, cross-platform, a lot of questions can be answered in this forum.
