If you've never done a website before, then you probably don't need to do the website. But either way, what exactly are you trying to do? What type of site is this? Dynamic, static? More info needed.

Given the info, I would recommend Mozilla Composer (part of the Mozilla program). Free, WYSIWYG and easy to use. Knock yourself out.

You've woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning, aintcha?

But yeah... Without wanting to sound too rude to the original poster, there's no easy set of rules to design a website otherwise every monkey and his grinder would be making a top class site. If you're going to learn, learn it properly and invest in the right tools.

There's a lot of good free advice out there on the web, a lot of excellent free tools you can use, but to do the job right you're going to have to spend time - and a lot of it - to get anywhere.

On the design front, a great book is "Don't Make Me Think" by Steve Krug, available at Amazon. Can be read in a matter of a few hours......
