Upgrading from Flash 4 to Flash MX2004
After using 4 extensively for a few years now, I need MX for some upcoming jobs. I picked up the 'FLASH MX 2004 Visual quick start' book from Peachpit Press. It looked good in the store, as I needed info on importing video, which it covers pretty well. However it barely touches on Actionscript...not even a mention of "load movie" etc.
Personal recommendations needed for the 'next step' book please.
Choices seem to be between:
Peachpit's "advanced MX2004"
O'Reilly actionscript books
Various titles from Friends of ED
PS. Are there major script differences between MX and MX 2004?

tons of new stuff, it's ActionScript 2.0 now.
having worked on a few friends of ED books, i can strongly recommend them. check out Foundation ActionScript for Flash MX 2004 and Foundation Flash MX 2004 for a start. your local Waterstones probably has them all in stock, so you can read before you buy.

Well I haven't written a book myself...
..but I can recommend Flash 5 Actionscript by Friends of Ed - it doesn't have all the new OO methods, but it will give you an excellent grounding in the fundamental differences between Flash 4 and Flash 5-6. Flash 6/7 has a ton of new features, mostly relating to the way you create and refer to objects within the movie, but you probably won't need most of that stuff until you become more familiar with the fundamentals.

I had a hard time learning Flash through one of the standard Flash books because of the unusual Macromedia workflow. I heard about video-based learning and was referred to Lynda.com ( www.lynda.com). It really fit my learning style, and I was able to pick it up pretty quickly.
For more advanced programming, I would also recommend picking up "ActionScript, the Definitive Guide" by Colin Moock. This is a great read, and an essential reference for any Flasher.
