Hi, I'm using Adobe GoLive to design a website. I am hoping someone can give me some tips for adding a search box...is this something I can create myself in GoLive ( I don't have a clue about html) or are third party options like atomz best? About how much do these cost? A lot of sites conveniently leave that part out. How about the Google applicance?
thanks in advance!!

The search box itself is trivial, just a form field, but what you need is a search engine to drive it. Do you have CGI access, or PHP/mySQL? If so, there are many free search engines out there. They will take some work to configure and install on your server
If you prefer not to mess with that and want to use a third-party product, you can use a free version of Google. It's not very convenient as you can't change the design of the results pages, but it's free.
One of the better paid third-party engines is Picosearch. They have varying levels (and costs) of service. Their forms and results can be integrated reasonably well into your own design.

Thanks! I'm not so comfortable with PHP and I have no idea about CGI access..I'll check into google & Picosearch...my ISP does use C-Panel and has a bunch of PHP & SQL applications, but doesn't seem to have an identifyable search application. The tech support guy there "wasn't sure." Anyway, I appreciate your help and the leads you've provided!

I say go the google way. I do this on sites sometimes, but I usually have a form submit the query to a PHP script which then assembles the url and feeds a redirect header to the browser. Google's method does pretty much the same thing, though, and is simpler to set up.

Haven't I seen some sites that let you search either *the whole web* or *just their site* ? Does Google not have an option like that?
Nevuh mind... there was a link to such on the above-linked google page.
