i have some type of error with either my sound card or my speakers but they blast the out of me when i log in. so i edited the script file that was in my srcipts folder that changes the volume. i want 2 know if i can make it run system preferences in the background so i dont see it start up and do what it does

or is there an eisier way to change the sound volume?

You could just have a login script with this line it in:

set volume 1

Play with the number to see what works best for you. Zero will be mute.

Using this method you won't get any applications flashing up on the screen when you log in.

For future reference: "set volume" comes from the Standard Additions set of script commands, which has several types of utility functions for this sort of thing (system settings, filesystem access, et al). You can use the Library (in Script Editor's Window menu), or drag items from /System/Library/ScriptingAdditions onto Script Editor's icon to see more built-in commands.
