Pages has just been announced and I hear that a spreadsheet app is on it's way - so will we see iWeb anytime soon?

Surely it would be fairly easy for Apple to offer lots of layout and style templates?

Apple already offers their web templates as a part of .Mac. I really don't see them putting together something that would fit between "saving as html" out of Pages and full blown products like GoLive, etc..

Oh... and I have not seen any rumors of a spreadsheet... only people remarking on its absence (with a few additional remarks about the potential of CoreData).

It's not entirely far-fetched, given that Safari 2.0 is said to support IE's contentEditable attribute (sadly, no word on Midas support yet). That implies that at least a limited amount of WYSIWYG editing will be present. Exactly how much, however, is unknown at this point. Also, there's no guarantee that Apple would choose to spin this into its own application.

I thought they would have by now considering the public beta had HTMLEdit on there then scrapped when 10.0 shipped. Not that it was a full blowm replacement for anything at the time but it was still a promising app I thought.

First off, there were two different HTMLEdits: One was a demo project that explained how to create a Cocoa application. You can still find this intro on Stepwise's site (just look for HTMLEditor).

The second version was the editor that came over with WebObjects from NeXT. During the developer beta period this was available freely, but with the full release it went back to just being a part of the WebObjects development tools (where it still lives today). It is a full-blown development app in that regard.
