(Forgive the cross posting but we need developers as well as users...)

Ippimail is a new community based email service, Hotmail/Gmail style. We want to raise $1million/day for charities and good causes around the world. http://www.ippimail.com

You guys are just about the very first to know about this because
A) As Mac users we are by definition 'the good guys'
B) The generally supportive tone of these boards...

I hope you will feel able to take this project under your wing...Spread the word about ippimail.

We have built the ippimail project on Open Source software and 10% of everything we raise will go back to the OS community. We will also Open Source all the development we do. We are hoping that the OS community will see this as a golden opportunity to build a really worthwhile project and evangelise OS to a group of people who may never have come across Open Source before. We are not just about OS though...

I appologise in advance for the length of this post but the ippimail project is not easy to put in a nutshell, there is a lot to it...

I'm happy to discuss this here or on our own boards at ippimail.com.

Here is the blurb:

I am hoping you will support a new Social Enterprise which I have been working on for the last couple of years. We are launching our testing/trial version of the site today.

Ippimail.com is a free, community based email service which aims to raise $1million/day for charities and good causes around the world. This does not involve any cash donation on your part. The beauty of Ippimail is that we are creating entirely NEW funds for charities, the money is not coming out of anybody's pockets in the form of cash donations. In fact, there is no way to donate cash to charities through Ippimail at all.

All you need to do is simply give about fifteen minutes of your time to answer some questions.

How does it all work? Ippimail provides you with an email address and a means to read and write your email via our website. It is just like Hotmail or Yahoo mail. You can even forward mail to your existing address if you wish. The signup process involves filling out a detailed questionnaire. The questionnaire is entirely anonymous (you are not asked to give your name or complete address for instance). The information you provide will allow us to tailor discrete banner advertising for you when you view your email. Please note that we have no intention of sending you lots of 'SPAM' or junk email. It simply means that each time you receive an email you will see a piece of advertising. (Hotmail and Yahoo also do this).

Our aim is to target advertising so accurately at you that it becomes a resource to you. For instance, if you are a mad golfer, wouldn't it be great to be informed that your local golf store is having a 50% off sale next weekend? This level of detailed targeting is very valuable to advertisers, too.

When you sign up you will be able to nominate a charity or group of charities who will benefit from the money your use of the site will generate. You can support exactly the causes you care about. You can also change your nominated charity at any time. This means the Ippimail community can respond to events such as the Tsunami tragedy recently. In an instance such as this, we could have emailed you saying something like, 'As you are probably aware, a massive Tsunami has hit a number of countries in South East Asia. Tens of thousands have been killed, many made homeless, etc. How about we all change our nominated charities to divert funds to this disaster. ' At a moments notice, it can become be a bit like 'Band Aid'.

Please visit <http://www.ippimail.com>. Take the site tour and ask any questions you might have in our forums. We hope you will want to get an Ippimail address, an address which shows you are one of the good guys.

Please pass the word!

Sincerely

Simon Martin
