I see Opera has an IRC module for its browser; is it possible for someone to do the same for Safari?

Better question: Is there any advantage to having IRC in a browser? The two activities have little to do with each other. To my mind IRC is a much better fit in a chat program... or a not-quite-as-bad fit in a mail program (more because it is like newsgroups... sort of).

Just because someone does something, doesn't mean it should be done.

Yeah, and lets add an iTunes controller to SubEthaEdit! OOh, and we can ask Microsoft to make Word able to organize our photos! This'll be great!

Why? There's no real advantage to having an IRC app in a browser. Mozilla has it as a third-party add-on, which is as it should be, but it hasn't really got any advantages because of being added into a browser. You could as easily build a standalone app in the Gecko Runtime Environment (Snowbird, anyone?) and there wouldn't be a single disadvantage over the browser-extension version.

If you want an IRC app that uses WebCore, though, Colloquy might fit your needs.

I don't really see the point.

I'm actually quoting you just to point out your correct use of the possessive 'its' though. It's so rare to not see someone making the mistake of adding an apostrophe. Godspeed!
