i am using xcode for java programming, now i have got some questions:

1:why does every time i build a new Java project , it takes ages to INDEXING many stuffs? Is that necessary for xcode, or i can skip this process?

2oes xcode have some funtion like SMART INSERT of eclipse?

3:Can xcode compile the code when we are typing?

4:Can someone who is experience with xcode give me some essential hints for doing work more efficiently and clearly?

Any one got some questions about developing program using xcode, please post your question here, thanks
There were once four people named Everybody, Somebody, Nobody and Anybody. Somebody had to do a job, but Nobody wanted to do it. Nobody could see that Anybody could do it, and Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Nobody ended up doing it, and it so happened that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

1. The indexing allows for code completion, and for the auto-documentation/class browser. You can work while this is happening.

2. This is called "Code Sense" see XCode -> Help menu -> XCode Help -> Editing Files -> Using Code Completion.

3. Yes, it is called "Predictive Compiling": Preferences -> Building -> Use "Predictive Compiling". I am not sure if it works on Java, but I believe so.

4. XCode -> Help menu -> XCode Help. You might want to read through the entire document. If you are not going to do that, at least glancing at Building a Project-> Speeding Up the Build Cycle would be a good idea.

Try jEdit. My favorite java source-editor. It takes a while to customize to your liking, but just give it a chance and download several plugins. And it's fairly intuitive so you don't need to read a manual to learn how to use it (unlike Eclipse..)
