Why would my container not span and adjust to the entire height of the window if I used this?

#container {
margin: 0 auto;
width: 750px;
height: 100%;
text-align: left;
border: 1px solid #000000;
background: #C4C4C4;
}

I'm looking to get container to act as a centered self-adjusting column in the window.

Thanks!

I think you've got to obtain the height of the browser window using javascript and work with that.

Something along those lines.

Is that how it's done with sites like this:

http://www.bartelme.at/

or other blog style designs?

yes - I've ripped the relevant parts into a page here:

http://www.monkeyfood.com/design/centralcolumn/
http://www.monkeyfood.com/design/centralcolumn/main.css

p.s. There are some nice templates for column based layouts here:

They all come up saying 'this is the widebook' now. You got a 17" PowerBook or something?

Something else of interest: I can't actually ping monkeyfood.com. I can go to the site in Safari to bring up the page I mentioned above, but it's a no go for pinging. Weird.

You don't happen to have your server in a co-lo down in London do you? A mate of mine uses easily.co.uk and they've been having troubles all day...

Yes - I've got a 17" pb.

Right, thanks for the help with the heads-up and the troubleshooting - this terrible new netgear router I bought is playing silly buggers and routing all incoming traffic to my laptop.

Back to the shop you go - Hello 3Com.
