Hi,

Here is the site-
http://islandgeographic.com/

At first I-
colored the body background black
made a one cell table with a jpg non tiled background image
used a png with transparancy for the text in the table.

This-
makes the background image easily replacable
makes the text crisp
keeps the file as small as possable

But-
the background image blinks and dissapears in IE 5.5 (win)
works fine in Safari and IE5.2 (mac)

What is the best way to-
have a crisp small image?
crisp small text over image?
keep compatability with older browsers?

Thanks-Brad

if you're going with images for everything, just make it all one picture

then you can either use an image map, or split it into little pieces.

since you've got a jpeg background, putting the text into it won't increase the file size, the only downside is that you'll have to resave it whenever you want to change it.

Thanks clam,
It seems the text in a jpeg is soft.
I was hoping to have crisper text (gif or png). For now it is all jpeg.

I am looking into css, maybe that will work in that confoundit ie 5-6 for windows.
