Our team used MS VSS for source control on windows, and currently we develop partly on Mac. Moreover, our team is a distributed one, over half of which is located in another city. We corporate via internet connection.
The problem is how to access our remote SourceSafe database from Mac?
Is there a way around?
Any reply from you will be appreciated. :-))

Yeah.....switch to CVS or subversion.

I had to migrate our project over from Source Safe a few years back when I became a "switcher".

And go to www.smartcvs.com for a nice gui to either CVS or subversion.

As for SourceSafe--it's proprietary as far as I know.

especially ones with political tripe in them.

Hi Shirleyoga,

I don't know what you really want, and whether you'll consider a commercial software rather than open source.

We've ever tried CVS, I admit it can attract quite a lot of attention because it's for free. However, when it comes to concurrent versioning system, it has to stand by. Moreover, its cross-platform capability is far from "true"....

We prefer SourceAnyWhere, it's a robust solution for us. Actually SourceAnyWhere is a VSS remote access software, providing very fast and reliable access to SourceSafe database. It can run on Mac, Linux, Solaris and any other plaforms where JDk can run. That's true cross-platform, just what we need.

You can go to http://www.dynamsoft.com/SAW_overview.htm to have an overview firstly.

Hope it helps.

I'd be interested to hear in what way you think CVS is not truly cross-platform (particularly as it also has java clients, if you want to use them). Even without Java, it runs on more platforms than most people would care about.

Metrowerks used to make a Visual Source Safe client for the Macintosh, but, I believe that they canceled the tool about 3 years ago. (I don't think there was ever an OS X version) You may want to google around and post on some mailing lists to see if you can buy someone's used copy...

or you could fire up tcpdump and ethereal and hack your own client together by reverse engineering the protocol, of course you'd be violating the DMCA--the joke of a law that it is.

Hi guys....thanks...
I wanna know what your team use for version control ( if you use).
I've been looking to an ideal one recently, but not determined yet.

CVS coupled with SmartCVS as a UI is very nice. CVS is free, and SmartCVS is very reasonably priced and works great on just about every platform (it's java)

OK...Why not search by google to look for the products you need?
There are several such products in the market, here's an article I found for your reference. It makes a very detailed comparison among them.

And finally hope it helps.
