hello.
I have a page set up using floating boxes in an animation. the images in the boxes are png 24's, used so translucent elements can pass over each other without a stroke being visible.
in all browsers [mac and pc] except IE for pc, the boxes are clear, the png's pass over as they're supposed to.
in IE for pc the floating boxes show up as white boxes around each png.
anyone run into this? is there an ie fix I can ambed?
the ani is at http://sniffylinings.com/rainfresh_site/site/front.html
though I'm fairly new to css, I've set up an external style sheet at rainfresh_site/rainfresh.css
someone please tell me it's not IE isn't yet supporting png's I know it's only been what, three years or so.
thanks very much all.

IE isn't yet supporting pngs.
Sorry.
There are alternatives with javascript, typically. But they are hardly perfect, especially with DHTML.

hey, thanks very much. I took a look at the source. I'm wondering if there'd be a way to apply it globally instead of what seems like actually setting it up for each image and each page. I have to go over it again, but it seems like the solution on: http://webfx.eae.net/dhtml/pngbehavior/pngbehavior.html doesn't do that.
also, my client will be using an out of the box shopping cart system, they haven't chosen one yet, but I do know I'll be setting up a table with thumbnails in another floating box. you happen to know if the fix will clash?
thanks again.

IE supports PNGs, except those with transparency. There are some hacks to get around this, but the bad news is that the next revision of IE still doesn't support them right, because their codebase is so screwed up that they can't even do proper transparency without massive rewrites.
But I'm not bitter about IE having held back the Web for the past four years, now am I?

I've never needed to do that kind of thing before so I'm not sure if it's possible. maybe there's something I can place in the stylesheet to avtivate that globally. any ideas?
the only reason I mention it is because I've found there's people who have found the slight fix not to work, and I'm not sure what the variables are which give people inconsistent results.
though tomorrow am I plan to start trying out the various fixes.
also, it's strange, but ie for mac works just fine when I test with it.

IE/Mac supports PNG just fine; in fact, it was one of the first browsers to do so. Only IE/Win has problems with the format.

hm. I found something which might be of interest and maybe even help.
going through the source I happened to notice a correlation between the boxes in ie, and something in the golive dhtml ani script. which is this: <cstrack layer="bag" parts="0,0,0,,1,1,#ccccff"></cstrack>
the reason why this is interesting is because ccccff appears to be the same color as the box background inserted in ie/pc
anyone have any speculation? maybe it's just a coincidence. I tried deleting the color from one of the strings, but golive reinserted it. I guess it needs some color there, not sure if there's something I can put in its place to make the color value 'transparent'.
I'm about to apply the slight script, see if that fixes it.
