Hi everyone,
I am using Dreamweaver to design a basic travel site and wondered what the best photography manipulation package would be - I assume Photoshop which I have successfully used - Fireworks also seems quite good - are there any others anyone would recommend?
Cheers,
Richard

Photoshop is the best photo tool period. I also use GraphicConverter, though, because I find its batch-processing features are really nice.

Photoshop is the clear cut winner when packaged with ImageReady. The only problem is the cost. If you already got it or can afford it then its your best option.

GIMP is my choice. Somewhat awkward interface, admittedly, but it runs smoothly on X11 over OS X and it's free. Has all the features I need; I'm not a graphic artist.

For maximum speed, I like using an AppleScript calling on Tiger/Panther's built-in Image Events application. It basically uses the underlying SIPS architecture to pull off things like resizing and is very fast! Of course, I still need to use Fireworks MX or Photoshop to do anything elaborate, but the AppleScript saves me many hours of dull, repetitive labor.

Thanks for the responses - Photoshop it is! I'll also check out some online tutorials - but you may hear from me again if I get stuck
Any predictions about new software lines now that Adobe and Macromedia have merged?

Similar to recording an action with Photoshop?

Photoshop isn't very good at optimizing web graphics.
Fireworks is. Though I haven't used Fireworks, so I don't know how it fares at manipulating images. I do know that it allows jpeg masking so that you can compress certain areas of an image less. It also makes png files smaller than Photoshop can.
Graphic Converter, however, makes the smallest png files according to tests I've done (and had others do with Fireworks).
