Now that Safari finally has WYSIWYG capabilities we've been looking into finding a WYSIWYG editor that'll work well with Safari, it turns out that one doesn't exist, but the best we found was FCKeditor.

Fred Knabben (the creator of FCKeditor) is very interested in developing FCKeditor for Safari but he doesn't own a Mac to test his creation on. So, we've decided to donate $800 to the cause to help him buy an iBook or something: http://www.fckeditor.net/donate/safari/

He's setup a fundable page to try and get the rest of the money he needs: https://www.fundable.org/groupactions/FCKeditor_iBook/

Best of all, FCKeditor is open-source, so once it's made everyone can use it in any of their projects! I don't know about you, but I can't wait to have a WYSIWYG editor in my browser of choice.

well let's hope he has better luck than the developers of TinyMCE, who were only able to implement partial support for Safari because the Midas Specification is incomplete. Basic things like bolding, underlining, italicizing and text alignment work, but beyond that you are pretty SOL.

So they got their donations and are working on FCKEditor for Safari.
(They give update at http://www.fckeditor.net/safari.html )
I'm bumping this up because it seems like people who are developers could maybe help spur WebKit coordination of this work?

Awesome that you helped this guy out! FCKeditor seems to be the WYSIWYG editor of choice for a lot of guys.

Especialyl cool that this again spurs improvements to WebKit itself!

Good luck to him. I don't know of anyone who's ever gotten Safari's WYSIWYG capabilities to work. The company I work for tried once, and suffice it to say things didn't end well.
