I need to find a WYSIWYG HTML editor that works on plain ol' .txt files that have only basic markup and which doesn't insist that every document validate on its own (because the files I want to edit are being includes; they'll validate once they are assembled into complete pages). Most of the editors insist on inserting all kinds of tags to make the page "proper" HTML and that drives me nuts.

BBEdit is non-intrusive with its HTML markup, and has a built-in Webcore preview so it's a pretty tidy and fast solution. Some people baulk at the price, but it's been worth every single cent I paid for it as I can work with it via FTP, SFTP, SVN and CVS to boot! It doesn't have autocomplete tags and it doesn't do drag-n-drop coding for you, but it's bloody good at what it does.

I agree BBEdit is great. Unfortunately, most of my users are stuck on Windows, so while I can use BBEedit happily on my Macs, my clients are pretty much out of luck. Is there something good for Windows I can use?

Yeah, I've used AceHTML. Too bad it's no longer free. I wonder if it can do include files that are not complete HTML and if it can still color-code the tags?
