so (for those who saw my other post)
i made a flash banner on a website,
works great.

but it is blocked on my mac by pithhelmet, by default.
guess it is seen as an ad.

is there any way to make the flash banner NOT be read as an ad (& therefore not be blocked)?

Yeah, figure out which rule in Pithhelmet is blocking it, and change whatever you need to change to avoid it. For one thing, don't name it "banner."

hmmm...
i want to make this a global thing, so anyone accessing the site will see it (even if they have an adblocker installed)

flash sites load fine on my pb, even with pithhelmet.
just want my own flash file to play...everywhere!

i converted my original file (a quicktime movie) to a gif...
is this a better format?

much smaller file size than the mov, or the flash file.

can everyone (pc, mac) play the gif without plugin warnings, etc??

EDIT: nevermind. got a plugin warning in iE when i tried the gif.

back to flash! (and, btw, changing name from "banner" helped!)

thanx!

You got a plugin warning when you tried to play a GIF file? That's very strange; no browser should give plugin warnings for that format. As to whether or not GIF is a better format, that depends. If your banner has no audio, no interactivity, and only 256 colors or less, then GIF is a better format. Otherwise, it's not.

As for fixing ad-blockers, you may be out of luck. Many people see Flash as inherently annoying when they don't know it's coming, whether or not the Flash is actually an ad, because it requires a plug-in. For this reason, some ad blockers simply block all Flash by default (or replace it with a click-to-play icon), and there are even some specialized Flash blockers out there.

got the warning with .gif in iE...! anyway, the flash one works, so far. hopefully for everyone (not blocking flash completely)

Um, that thing is 5MB. That's way too big.

It did show, though. I use Adblock in Firefox with the Filter.G ruleset.

Use GIF for that if it cuts down on the file size, it's nothing that Flash is needed for. If IE gives you a warning then call it stupid while you point and laugh at it.

But you should be able to cut that file size WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY down below 5.1 MB for what you have. There must be something wrong with it, I've watched friggin 5 minutes VIDEOS that were like 600k.
