So......I'm still fighting with my server set up, now I have a dns question, but cant seem to find the answer to it.

The question is: can I point the dns on the domain directly at a users folder? I dont want to use "/~user" set up.

I know in the following example, the dns is not pointed directly at my folder. i'm just using it for example purposes.

Example: gone

if I wish to access my user sites folder the address is: gone
gone

My domain is: gone]
could I enter gone a as a proxy dns record?

tis all for now.

thanks,

-j

EDIT: so if this can be set up....the question then becomes how is it done with a router in the middle?

To my understanding, NO you cannot add the folder to the proxy.

you will need to point your domain to the ip, and then the web server software on that maching (the machine with the ip) will have to be configured to direct that domain to the specified folder.

I am not too familure with it so maybe someone else will be able to walk you though it.

edit: as for the router question you will need to make the router point all port 80 requests to the machine that is hosting the site. its called ip fowarding on the linksys router.

I was afraid that might be the answer....

I'm just having so many damn problems with virtual hosts, I thought this may be a good way around that.

hmmm.....there must be a way......
