I have recently switched from Mac to PC at work and will now be doing web development work on my Mac...

What applications do people use for code editing on their Macs? I work mainly with JSP pages, XSL, JavaScript, CSS, DHTML etc. I have tried BBEdit which was recommended to me but it doesn't seem particularly great or feature-rich, on first inspection...

Well... I DO use BBEdit because:-

1. It's fast.
2. It has automatic function dropdowns for PHP, or automatic CSS declarations, or automatic document hierarchy for HTML docs. It also recognises Actionscript, ASP and Javascript.
3. I can quickly preview a HTML page using the preview and it's pretty much exactly as you'll see on Safari as it also uses Webkit.
4. The developers are constantly improving it.
5. It's 'pricy' in the sense that it's an expensive text editor, but cheap because I use it 99% of the time, so it's better value than DW or GL
6. It integrates with Subversion. Three thumbs up for that.
7. I can edit Mac OS X system files as an administrative user which is very handy
8. Built-in Tidy integration
9. It integrates with Transmit so I can quickly edit remote files without dragging, dropping and then opening
10. It has an endearingly ugly icon

The % of people complaining about DW on Mac is too high for me to ignore. If you're hand-coding, it makes no sense to purchase it.

I'd take a second look and see what BBEdit CAN do before you dismiss it. OTOH, SubEthaEdit and TextMate also seem to be making a lot of other people happy (see the Software topic).
Computer thez nohhh...

TextWrangler, made by the same folks who make BBEdit but often forgotten by users for some reason, is also very good. That's what I use.

I like skEdit (www.skti.org). Its killer feature is its code hinting. Start typing any HTML tag or attribute, or any CSS selector or value, and it'll suggest all the available options in a little tooltip window. It also has some hinting for built-in Javascript elements (like string methods).

skEdit also does automatic FTP/SFTP syncing with your web server. $20 buys you all future upgrades.

Don't let BBEdit's seemingly simple interface confuse you into thinking it is not feature rich. Download the demo and give it a try for a few days. Read the manual (Help -> BBEdit User Manual) and you'll be surprised at what all is packed into it that you would never have guessed by looking at it.
