CHICAGO, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Back in the early 1990s, when the Internet first emerged as a cultural phenomenon, technology gurus reckoned that a brilliant new intellectual era was here and that Americans would soon be able to search for all sorts of sophisticated information online.
