Hi,

I have got apache working on my home computer and I am using it to host my 'Home made' (and you know how home made always tastes better) web sites.

Using Dreamweaver 8 and the OS is Tiger 10.4.4

I would like to add on a hit counter, and would prefer not to have to link to a 'counter' web site. But would if there was no alternative.

Could some kind soul please advise me on what is best, and how to do it.

Many thanks,

K.

if you want to script it yourself it is kinda easy for each view but for unique a bit harder.
you just need to make a connection to a mysql database and all it needs to access for each hit is a row and just add one to it and then get the number and disconnect from mysql.

if you want to do unique visitors you would need a table all of its own so it can log ips and dates. so that way when it connects and checks current ip with ips in log if doesn't find a match it will add it. if it does find a match and its over a set date it will add it otherwise it will ignore it.
You shouldn't make fun of nerds... you'll be working for one some day.

moste people frown on 'hit counters' but instead rely on stats software to parse the apache logs. you could look at webalizer or awstats.
