I am a very big fan of the machintosh computer and thats why i bought a book called "Programing Starter Kit for Machintosh" when i saw it on a book shelve but when i insert the disk and try to install it a message comes up which says "There is not a valid system software to start classic. Please consult the user documentation about installing the appropriate system software. " and the bad thing is it does so with every new update application i have downloaded
and yes i am new to using a Mac. so what could i do?

One of the install discs that came with your Mac has the installer for Classic on it. Try each disc, until you find one that has a package named "Install Mac OS 9 System Support" or something similar. This will install your Classic environment so you can run old OS 9 apps.

This is assuming you're using a PowerPC-based Mac. If you're using an Intel-based Mac, the above advice will not apply. In this case, you're screwed.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

FYI, if it's starting up in Classic, that program is probably really outdated.
