Has anyone tried Optilink for the Mac? They claim that their searches look like regular browser requests (and the inference is that you don't risk being banned by Google). How do I evaluate the veracity of that claim?

In one easy lesson you will read my ten page pdf file full of big fonts spelling out what you already knew or could have found out for free by Googling. All for $100.

I could do without the sarcasm, SM.

If your point is that you can do a lot of search engine optimization using free tools, you are correct. However, the hope of Optilink and similar programs is that the might simplify and take some of the drudgery out of finding pages that link to you and what their ranking and keywords are, etc. To do a complete audit of keywords, pages linking to you, and other relevant info for SEO using just Google itself would take a very long time.

It's also true that there are many free services that offer bits and pieces of what Optilink does, but tracking them all down and using them takes time that Optilink might spare you.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has used the Mac version.

There are some links below you will find that do the same as this "Optilink" .....for no money.

I also pass you some tips from a friend on SEO to show how easy it is and you don't need to pay for pdf ebooks that are nearly all 5 pages long with 100 point fonts and tell you exactly the following. This isn't just for you but anyone who wants SEO tips without paying for it.

-In your HTML make sure you define and optimise words in your meta description and keywords tags.

-Make a sitemap file with full url links to every page of your site. Example, call it sitemap.txt and save it as utf-8. In that file there should be a list of all your pages eg.

http://www.my site.com/index.html
http://www.my site.com/me.html
http://www.my site.com/today.html
http://www.my site.com/yesterday.html
etc

-Submit the sitemap to Google Sitemaps at http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login

-Keep the sitemap.txt file up to date every time you make a change to the site

-Submit your site to all the search engines at the following urls

• Google - http://www.google.com/addurl/
• The Open Directory Project - http://www.dmoz.org/add.html
• MSN Search - http://search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx
• Yahoo Search - http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request

-Post a link to your site on forums and Usenet newsgroups but do not do so as spam or you will get attacked or mocked or won't get visit. Make sure there is a legit reason for mentioning your site.

-Create an orphan html page that is not linked to by any other page on your site. In that html page put links to those forum pages where you posted or mentioned your site. Call the page inbound.html

-Add the full url of the orphan page in your sitemaps.txt and update Google Sitemaps. Your sitemap.txt should look like this now

http://www.my site.com/index.html
http://www.my site.com/me.html
http://www.my site.com/today.html
http://www.my site.com/yesterday.html
http://www.my site.com/inbound.html

Google Sitemaps will read the sitemap.txt twice a day to keep its index up to date. When it reads the inbound.html file the Google spider will crawl the URLs mentioned in it. The more inbound links you have the quicker your site will be in Google's index. Following these steps exactly your site will be in Google's search results in a week or less.

-Once it is in Google's index and there are enough inbound links the other search engines will kick into gear. You will be in their index a week or two later.

-To get a higher Alexa ranking or Page Rank your site has to have lots of content. The more good content there is the more people will read it and keep reading it. You must not let visitors get bored. Keep them coming back for more. Then your visitors will build up and your rank will improve.

-To keep visitors interested create an RSS feed, a newsletter they can subscribe to, a forum, good articles, great design, easy navigation, syndicated content etc

-Keep track of your site's success, page rank and inbound links at http://www.seoroot.com and http://www.selfseo.com

Honest I just saved you $100 telling you exactly the same thing you would read in those ebooks. Follow it exactly. The rest is up to your content.
