Hi,

I am currently getting in to doing some freelance webdesign and e-commerce solutions. I feel like i am in the need for a laptop those days when I cannot be at home infornt of my powermac. The kind of work I will do would probably be database work and coding obviously and some photoshop suff.

Now, what kind of laptop would you buy? Is it worth getting an intel core while probably some of the programs I am using will not be released for intel processor macs until end of next year like adobe. (OK, there is rosetta)

I was actually thinking of getting a second hand powerbook on eBay with a lot of RAM.

Any ideas?

Thanks

P.S Check out my website and say what you think www.blurimage.com

I'd personally buy a 12 inch jobbie, portable.

.....save the photoshop stuff for home, or carry around an external monitor of course.

It depends greatly on how heavy your work is. I create all my webpages by hand, coding (most recently) in Text Wrangler. I occassionally jump into Photoshop or Illustrator for graphic stuff, but my powerbook (G4 12") handles that really well on 256mb.

As it goes though, I've found that I much prefer my desktop for web-development. Larger screen very much worth it. I find that I don't use the laptop much for web stuff anyway. Get a 15" Powerbook, unless you're going to be doing a lot else on a MacBook Pro. You can probably get a good deal on an AlBook.

Your website is great!

Thanks

Yeah, the screen size is an issue, but I suppose I do not have a choice here. I will use the laptop when I am travelling for my other job and have spare time in the evenings. Thanks for your feedback.

Btw. What kind of editor are you using for PHP? I am currently using eclipse, but would like to know if any of you guys know of a better alternative.

Väldigt fin hemsida, Calle

(Men et lille problem med stavningen: whether = om; weather = vädret )

I have a 17” PB, but I don’t really use it much as a laptop—it tends to stay on my desk. If you don’t need the extra power, I’d go with a 12” AlBook just for portability.

I just use SubEthaEdit for PHP, really. I don’t even know Eclipse.

Oj då, Tackar!

Actually Eclipse is pretty good, you should check it out. Will try SubEthaEdit.

Thanks for your feedback!
