My Idea in general terms wihout giving other smarter people a good idea:

I want individuals be able to register themselves or a group to be able to list events in differenet cities/states/loctions...whatever. I want "normal" users to be able to visit and search by location, or radius of location to find events cose to them. The registered users would have their own page to link to with information about their event--they could log in to create/edit their own page. Clear as mud?

I am looking to things like Content Managers at the moment along with searching out their respective modules/extensions to find a way to peice it together without writing a ton myself. Joomla has come the closest, but it is confusing as heck. I have used PHP and MySQL a bit, but never written anything from scratch. There is so much stuff out their for general public use it's insane. I'm hoping someone else will know of something I don't.

Just tell me if this makes no sense...I'm a little

Hi, well I don't know if there are pre made modules for these kind of things. Making people regestering events and then for other people to search for it is not a huge task with PHP Mysql. The only thing which might be a bit tricky is the search for nearest location. I've never done something like that, but the first thing that comes to my mind would be to create a a list of all locations for the region you cover and then add coordinates to each location. This way you could calculate the nearest location (as the crow flies) easily.

I suppose the best thing would be to do it your self since you would have more control over it if you need to make changes in the future.

Making location searches is not terribly difficult, but you need to have a Geocode which will identify and associate points on a map in relation to each other. It's not hard to code, it's just hard to figure out what you're going to use to identify points.
