I've been working with small web development company, from next month I am am going to work for them on an hourly rate. ( in both cases from home )

Thing is, there many times when the client has requested a minor change to a site or a news item must be added etc.

Now in principle these changes don't take that long to do, but one has to copy paste, open up an editor, ftp, maybe crossbrowser check. Write in up in the "To Do" "Done" list.

A 30 second job could actually take a few minutes, and then there's the phonecall later asking if it's done.

So what I do, set a minimum price for a job? Half hour minimum or something?

A minimum is what most designers do. Usually either 15 or 30 minutes. In addition to the phone call you mentioned, often times there's "setup".... opening your software, opening up the client files, saving your work afterward, backing it up (if necessary), etc. It's rarely a case of just a couple of minutes of actual typing.

Most companies understand this.

Bill your time in appropriate increments (for example, I use 15 mins) and that should solve the problem.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.
