I want to learn to program for the Mac and I have a need for this application. Would Cocoa be the way to go for an application that can (as a batch) open two similar but not identical images, align them X,Y, rotation and scale and then crop save each image and close.

The images would be from two video cameras mounted side by side. One camera will be exposed for hilights the other for shadows.

Any advice or thoughts ... from a broad perspective ?

Thanks

Cocoa sounds like a good choice for this. Though I should warn you that bitmap processing is not exactly normal newbie territory. (It's not maddeningly difficult or anything. It's just a lot more technical and computery than most people are comfortable with at first.)

That's good to know. I ordered a couple of books to get me started with Cocoa. I will just be doing the basic newbie stuff while I figure out the what and how of image manipulation

Do you know of any books or tutorials where I can see what is possible and how others are working with images.

Thanks

One other question: have you done any programming before, and if so, on what platforms and languages? Depending on what you're already familiar with, some approaches to learning Mac programming may be better than others.

I program using PHP, ActionScript, and a language that is similar to VB from Group1 for creation of variable data transactional documents. PHP might be able to do something along this line but I would like to learn a compiled language and since I use Mac and have a few ideas for some cool apps ...

I played around with a couple of basic tutorials and Xcode. It actually reminded me of working with Flash.

A good start might be Apple's sample application "Reducer" http://developer.apple.com/samplecod...cer/index.html which will at the very least point you at some suitable technologies.
