In my class we use pc but I pretty much only use my powerbook. Now on pc we use notepad and then save the files .htm and then we can view it as a website or open with notepad to edit again. Now when I use text editor or word on my powerbook and I save it, it doesnt let me open it to see it as a webpage. It will open in firefox or safari, but it comes up as my code that i typed or it is a semi formatted page but with tons of weird symbols. Is there a better or right way to do this that i dont know. Or is there a program I could purchase to give me a hand. Also it has to be able to take the files from mac to pc in my lab to print the code and teh web page out for submission. Sorry if I am rambling on but I'm kinda overwhelmed right now.
Basically a shortened version
How do I type up html documents and view them as a web page?
And is there any specific programs I should use.

Word and TextEdit both work. Make sure you're saving as plain text (in the dropdown menu) rather than as Rich Text or Word documents, though.
There are other apps that might be better suited to HTML coding, such as SubEthaEdit and TextWrangler.

You're definitely saving it as a format other than html. as a result, the browser doesn't want to display it as html.
I highly recommend TextWrangler. It's easy, it's free, and it's function.

skEdit is a great shareware app for writing HTML/CSS/etc. its only $24.95 US, but it has a HUGE list of features. well worth the money, if you plan to write any more than a little bit of HTML/CSS.

Use a text editor designed for writing HTML or other code, like Taco HTML Edit or Smultron, both of which are free. I can't imagine writing code without syntax highlighting or auto indenting.
Personally I prefer SubEthaEdit, but there are lots of good free apps out there.
