A friend asked me if he could put together a website for his kids soccer team, I'm not going to charge him....

.... but does anyone know if there is already something custom made out there?

I mean it all the same sort of stuff on sport sites, results, table, news, player profiles, reviews etc.

I think the emphasis should on user ( admin ) friendliness as opposed to functionality, as in not a very high standard of computer literacy needed to update the site.

Thanks in advance.

Here is link to Hotscripts which may be helpful. I would look under CMS and Portals sections.
Hotscripts.com :: PHP :: Scripts and Programs
The problem I have found with these CMS is, there is usually a bigger learning curve to admin them than my clients can handle.
I even have problems with many of them and I've used most at one time or the other.
Anyway, hope the link helps.

Exactly.

Therefore I would rather make up a customized "idiot proof" cms for the site, but at the same time I don't want to have to re-invent the wheel if at all posssible.

This one looked like what I was after, but I yet to find a working demo of it....
