Hi,

I have several years of programmming experience, but haven't programmed on the Mac for about 5 years. What IDE would you recommend for java development on the Mac? I'd like to construct a nice gui for interaction with the program...is there an tool that is cheap/free and is easy to use? Is Apple's editor (part of the OS cd collection) a good one? I like the idea of a free app.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't used it for anything serious but Apple's Java IDE look nice.

I think a very good choice would be Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.org/). It's an open source project sponsored by IBM. It's a good IDE and has lots of add-ons for it.

I'd also recommend Eclipse.

If you want free, I'd go with Eclipse. You should also consider Java's own Netbeans. Not free, but with a trial period and very nice, is IntelliJ IDEA.

ecipse is the best ide for any development. there is a community dedicated to developing plugins that extend eclipse far betond a simple java ide and best of all it is free.
I am now going to tell the computer what he can do with a life-times supply of chocolate.
