So i am not that new to webdesign, but i am not very knowledgable in it. I was wonder on how i can create a website so i can post images up, but a user can not right click on an image and select save as. I do understand that they can take a screen shot of the site and crop that image to isolate a picture, however, that isnt too much of a concern since it takes more effort that not many people know how to do.

So how do i create a website so people can not right click/control click on an image and save it. I know this can be done because flickr does it.

there are a number of "right click suppression" java scripts.

That being said, there is not way to stop people from taking the image. Could you give a link to the flickr site that doesn't let you take a photo?

You could watermark a version of the image and then make people log in to see ( or buy, or whatever ) the image you want to protect.

While the javascript solutions won't allow right-clicking on an image, I haven't seen any of these solutions disable simple dragging-and-dropping. The only option I know of that disallows both would be to display the image using a linked CSS file.

The only thing I can think of that should be relatively foolproof would be to embed a Flash app that loads and displays the image. If you let the browser itself load the image, there's no way to stop the user from saving it.

Flash can be screenshotted and decompiled.

Then the only thing would be heavy watermarking, but that doesn't address the original problem.

The only way to protect an image is not to put it online.

Those javascript solutions usually diasable right-clicking completely. A lot of people right click to go "back". When I see a sight that disables right clicking, I just leave.

All you're going to do is alienate some of your visitors for no gain. Why bother?

This is the bottom line. If you are transmitting an image to a user's computer, they will have the image. Stopping them from clicking the mouse will just annoy them, not keep somebody who has the slightest idea what he's doing from taking your photos.

Of course anything can be screenshotted. So the goal is to eliminate anything easier than screenshotting, which my solution does nicely (decompiling sounds like more of a pain than taking a screencap, so that's out already).

Not much use in screenshotting something with a watermark.
