Ok, I have an idea of a great app or software and also I build an animation with Keynote to show how it works, I'm not a programmer so I do not have a pre-build app or anything, but the idea is extraordinary. Anyone want to help me build this idea? anyone with free time and programming skills can work on it. I just want a partner and start something revolutionary. If you want to be part of something new (it's not a simple software, it's a whole new concept) and I want it to be just for Mac.
If you are interested just tell me and I will begin to send you information about the idea thru private massages or by email. it's not a joke.

I got a feeling about this. and yes it is not a joke. I trust this forum a lot and I respect every member here since I became one, I get a lot of help and give a lot of help and I'm kind of an Macnn Addict here, I read this forum almost everyday. I just got an idea and I need a partner to work it out, in fact if the person think that my idea is crap I will respect that also.

I was just referring to the fact that you wrote m assage, instead of m essage.
massage: kneading and rubbing parts of the body to increase circulation and promote relaxation
Might give people the wrong idea what your app is about.
On the serious side, you should probably find out first if anybody has filed a patent for something like your app, most ideas have already been patented by someone else.
I'm not really a programmer myself, barely made it through Learning Cocoa.

So, do I need to copyright my idea before working with someone? or I need to wait for a partner to copyright by two or three persons?

Just for clarification, you can't copyright an idea. You have a copyright on software you create (which is why piracy is illegal), but that's only on the actual created product. You can patent a software feature, but you'd want to talk to a lawyer and it would cost big $$. It's probably not worth your time at this point.

You could copyright a design though. You could write a short paper, draw some pictures, etc etc. and that would qualify as yours. It would at least give some claim should you produce what you want to.

Yeah, but the actual functionality would still be unprotected — and writing the paper wouldn't serve much purpose, since a copyright on that would just prevent your competitor from describing their product in a very similar way. (At least this is as I recall U.S. copyright law from my classes in college.)

Bear in mind that ideas are not worth much. If you look at MyDreamApp contest, the competitor got 15% for the idea, which is WAY more than an idea usually gets. They also had to do detailed GUI mockups, make videos, prove that the concept was feasible, and stuff like that.
Other than the idea, what would you bring to a partnership? Are you an accountant and can handle talking to venture capitalists to fund development? Are you a web and tech support guru who can deal with frustrated users? If all you have is an idea, I doubt anyone will want a partnership. Someone might buy it off you if it's extremely good (but they'd need to see what you have first, of course!). Personally I wouldn't pay more than a couple of beers for an idea, unless I can see evidence of a heck of a lot of focus groups, market research &c to show that it's an idea that has a market.
I know I'm being a bit harsh here, but I've seen too many people come forward with "I have a great idea! Want to form a partnership for 50-50 split of the profits?" The response is always "Why should I put in hundreds of hours work coding this and get exactly the same amount of money as you, when it takes a few hours to note down an idea?"
If you're in it for the money, I would advise you start a company and employ a programmer -- that is, pay them an amount per hour, whether the app is profitable or not. If the idea's as good as you say, you'll make money that way, and for the programmer there is no risk.
If you're not in it for the money, put the idea up on this thread and see if anyone jumps. Or possibly try to get an open source team interested. Be aware you won't have full creative control that way though. People could go and start their own implementation of the same idea if they don't like how you're doing it.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

You're correct in that. It wouldn't protect functionality. As you mentioned, you can't copyright an idea. Only the execution of it. However it would be a way to say "I figured this out first..." though that may not be worth a whole lot.

I already upload my whole idea at icreateditfirst.com and make a copyright out of it, I just upload everything that explains my idea, including a keynote presentation of it to show how it works and a read me file that explain the whole concept. Any other invention/idea/brainstorm that look and feels like mine can't be done. So, if anyone wants to be part of history with me, working together on a new kind of journey about developing a new idea click here to see it, read it and get it and be part of it. I'll be waiting for you. let's get real and do this application. People will be addicted to it.
here's the link:
Welcome to NOW 1.0
I know you'll fall with it.
(what you are about to see it's 10% of a whole documentation that is already copyrighted)

Since the site is based in the UK, and there really isn't a way to register copyrights in the UK, I wouldn't get too excited over filing your idea with those people.

icreateditfirst.com it's only for reservation. I'd rather have it register there and in the mean time I do my job at copyright.org I already sent my idea by mail. So, the UK site it's for evidence only. and it's cool! (like sending a letter for your self)
