Hi Guys,

I am desperate to set up my own blog and wanted to know if any of you guys have got MYSQL installed on your Intel Macs.

I have tried to install several versions of the MYSQL database from the official website but I keep getting errors. The Installation seems to be fine but I cannot seem to find the application anywhere after installation.

Along with the downloaded setup a file, a file called 'PrefPane' or something similar is included, when I go and try to install that in my 'system settings' it tells me that there is an error and I should contact the software manufacturer.

I hope someone can help.

Kind Regards.

This may help you:
Marc Liyanage - Software - Mac OS X Packages - MySQL

Mark Liyanage (from the site above) has instructions and/or packages for installing MySQL, php, etc.. on OS X. In the case of MySQL it is a set of detailed instructions to get everything running. Hope that helps!

Also consider using MacPorts née DarwinPorts, which gives one-stop-shopping for many useful packages. Just install XCode if you didn't already, download MacPorts, type the one-line command in the README, and then do
sudo port install mysql +server
to get the whole thing running.

You're going to run your blog off your portable computer?

Does that seem like an insane idea to anyone else?

Hahahaha.

I am trying to set up a development environment so I can see exactly how my blog is going to look before I unleash it to the world wide web.

Most if not every Web designer I know follows this process.

You would be correct.

Also this app I found most helpful for me.

MAMP (Macintosh, Apache, Mysql and PHP)

The Marc build of PHP wasn't stable at the time, so I tried this out. Works better as it includes all the librarys for gdlib, as well, and can be controlled via a widget, also includes phpmyadmin as well.
