Okay, I'm sure this is simple enough, but I'm not getting it. I'm a recent convert and am trying to edit HTML in textedit. Only, it shows the actual preview or whatever. So I'm using Amaya to edit simple changes which is fine, but not expedient. Can I see/edit the code of an html document with a text editor?

Nevermind...I figured it out. TextEdit > Preferences > Open & Save panel > Check "Ignore rich text commands in HTML files"

I would also recommend using BBedit for editing HTML v. Textedit.

I like using text edit myself, but other things you could also try would be, for example, XCode, which does syntax highlighting, or (if you're adventurous) emacs (which is a command line program)

Textmate is my favorite text editor for programming.

I really don't recommend Xcode for HTML work. Like, it can do it, but it's actually worse in many ways than TextEdit. Better to go with something actually meant for HTML editing, like say TextMate, SubEthaEdit, TextWrangler, Smultron, etc.

Oh, the other thing I might recommend is that you edit your keybindings to give some commands to insert commonly used HTML stuff. For example, in mine, I've got a bunch of keybindings I added that start with control-option-h (i.e. for html) followed by an additional letter which insert various bits of html code.
