After dumping .mac, I am looking to buy a domain and create a site from iweb. It all seems confusing as to what I am getting for my money.

I thought to go with Godaddy, but they are American, and I would prefer to have my information held in Canada(just a personal preference). When I buy a domain(looking at .org), will my personal information such as address, phone #, email address be available for ALL to see? I really don't want to start getting huge amounts of spam. Shocking I know...Some of the companies seem to offer domain privacy on some domains like .com and .net. I was hoping for .org.

I prices seem to vary widely between companies on domain registry and hosting(which seem to be seperate purchases). I am not looking for anything fancy. Just somewhere to call Home, and post blogs, pictures, files, maybe have email etc... I am looking for advice on what to do and what NOT to do... Any feedback/reviews on Canadian companies would be helpful. And as this is not necessarily Mac specific, I didn't post in Applications. Slap me if I posted in the wrong spot...

I don't have a recommendation for a Canadian registrar, but concerning your personal details on the public registration, no you don't have to list them. Each registrar has a different interface for configuring your registration information, but the contacts that will be shown publicly are the Registrant, Admin and Tech. Usually you enter your billing details first, and then you opt to create separate contact info for the public registration. Some registrars even give free private registrations (although I don't know if that's available in Canada).
