When you choose Favorites --> Add to Favorites, the Name field in the resulting dialog box is populated by the contents of the <title> tag of the webpage you are on, but minus any colons that might be part of it. This can substantially change the meaning of the phrase you have chosen.

Once again, Microsoft shows how oblivious it is to the concept of an accessible web based on standards. The web needs to bend to fit IE, not the other way around, goes the thinking in Redmond.

My present theory is that bookmarks in IE7 are stored as individual files, and that whereas a colon is an illegal character in filenames under Windows, they block the file from being so named. If you surf to "Documents and Settings\MyUsername\Favorites", you will discover that your Favorites appear to be nothing more than a bunch of Shortcuts.

Of course, Microsoft's feedback site is down and "will be back soon." I called them, and all the guy could offer me was paid support at $49.95 per incident. I don't need Microsoft's support; in this case, they need mine!
