I'm new to development (outside of school requirements 10 years ago). I've decided to teach myself PHP. I setup PHP on my apple (powermac G5) a couple of weeks ago, and began working through a couple of books. I went on a work trip for a week and came back and none of the code I writes now works. Meaning, I can't even get simple print commands to display properly.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The information you've provided here is woefully insufficient for troubleshooting. The simplest answer, which won't require actually fixing anything: Get MAMP.

I'll give MAMP a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm sorry there isn't enough info to troubleshoot above. Part of being a rookie. Hard to know what information to provide to actually troubleshoot.

For future reference, relevant information would be things like:
  • How you set up PHP
  • Whether you've tweaked anything since then
  • A specific example of something you've tried that hasn't worked
  • The specific errors that occurred (Saying "It didn't work" doesn't provide nearly as much info as "It printed a message reading 'mod_php has been deleted'")

Just saying that something doesn't work is kind of like going to the police and telling them, "Somebody is committing a crime right now." They might want to help you, but they're not going to be able to take action on the vague fact that somebody somewhere is breaking the law.
