I am extremely new to software development and I want to develop some applications. I know very little about C++ on windows (accepting and entering text and simple arithmetic inside of a dos prompt). I was wondering if anyone could offer some tips on how to get started (besides taking classes which I will do in a few months).

Please see the earlier related threads in various Forums/Fora here on MacNN -- e.g., the C++ thread in this Forum, and the help, I want to be a programmer??? thread in the 'Mac OS' Forum. They are mostly geared towards C++ on the Mac, but also contain some pointers to online general information & tutorials for C++ on various platforms.

For Windows-specific C++ programming info, you could check out the many available good books at BookPool, or Amazon, etc. In addition, there are several available online resources, e.g.:-
