There are a number of resources on the web for becoming familiar with AS. A couple of places to start:
Apple has Applescript modules that can be found on you latest system install CD or in the Apple Extras folder on your HD. These modules install in the Apple help system on you Mac. There are examples and these are designed to take a person from novice to good capability in a self paced turorial environment.
There is a tutorial on the Apple site that has some of these modules available to browse on line and another at site that has an alternate free script wrting editor Smile
http://www.tandb.com.au/smile/
Several websites that are also excellent- macscripter.net is a good place to start and has links to most other scripting sites.
The way I learned was by duplicating the examples in the help system and by working through the turorials. That gives you enough of a sense of scripting that the advise and examples on various sites begin to be useful.
At the Apple/Applescript site
http://www.apple.com/applescript/ you can also sign up for an excellent mailing list with a group of scripters who are more than willing to help a person get started or develop more sophisticated skills.
Drop me a note if there is something specific that I might help with- learning AS myself.
